Often referred to as "the charity of charities" because currently it serves individuals and families from over 70 different social service agencies in Houston and surrounding counties".

The mission of The Furniture Bank is to furnish hope and make empty houses homes for Houston's needy families. The vision of The Furniture Bank is to create a livable and comfortable home environment for families in need.

Established in 1992 as a service of MHMRA of Harris County, The Furniture Bank was chartered as an independent 501(c)(3) non-profit in September 2003. The Furniture Bank has helped an estimated 60,000 individuals.

Each year The Furniture Bank serves more than 1000 families with furniture and household items, but the need is so much greater. In the past year, the Furniture bank has distributed over 8000 pieces of furniture to 4000 individuals - however, hundreds of requests continue to go unmet due to inadequate resources.

The Furniture Bank works with 70 organizations/agencies in filling the requests for furniture. All inventory at the Furniture Bank comes from tax-deductible donations of individuals, agencies and companies.
